Pipelines
With all the talk about new pipelines to promote the export of Canadian oil, what is sometimes missed is what is being done to protect our environment from oil spills. Canadians don’t always hear about new safety measures for pipelines and tankers, and tough new rules to punish polluters. For example, last year the government announced important new measures to protect our waters from oil spills. Specifically, we are increasing the number of inspections of all foreign tankers, and providing more funding for the national aerial surveillance program to keep a watchful eye on tankers moving through Canadian waters. Also, the federal government is improving a system of aids to navigation compromised of buoys, lights, and other devices to warn of obstructions and to mark the location of preferred shipping routes. These measures help to keep the transportation of Canadian oil safe for our environment. I’m Brad Trost, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Humboldt and I’m working for you.
