I am looking for your help in applying pressure on the Minister of Justice in support of C-418, which is expected to be debated on May 29th. There is still time to get your letters to the Minister of Justice to make him aware of Bill C-418 and voice your support.
As we speak, doctors across Canada are being coerced and intimidated to violate their consciences with respect to euthanasia. This has already led some to quit their practice, and others to move out of country.
MP for Cypress Hills-Grasslands, David Anderson, has introduced Bill C-418, a private members bill to protect the freedom of conscience for doctors and other medical professionals.
Bill C-418 amends the Criminal Code to make it an offence to intimidate a medical practitioner, nurse practitioner, pharmacist or any other health-care professional for the purpose of compelling them to take part, directly or indirectly, in the provision of euthanasia. To read the full bill, click here.
It also makes it an offence to dismiss from employment or to refuse to employ a medical practitioner, nurse practitioner, pharmacist or any other health-care professional for the reason only that they refuse to take part, directly or indirectly, in the provision of assisted suicide or euthanasia.
More information is available on the website of MP David Anderson: http://www.davidanderson.ca/issues/c418/
Send a letter to Minister Lametti! Please print, sign and return the attached letter to my office by mail (no postage required!). I am looking to bring as many of these letters to the attention of the Hon. David Lametti, Minister of Justice, as soon as possible.
