This is my last newspaper column for 2011.
I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
In addition, I want to thank those of you who gave my office feedback about my columns.
We introduced the MP Report a few years ago as a way to inform you, my constituents about some of the goings-on in Parliament and how they affect the lives of Canadians.
I do appreciate feedback from our readers, especially the suggestions about what topics would be interesting to read in our community newspapers.
It should also be noted that my staff posts all of my newspaper columns on my website at bradtrost.ca.
If you miss reading my MP Report in the newspaper one week, click on my website and it will be listed here.

Recently, our Conservative government introduced the Preventing Human Smugglers from Abusing Canada’s Immigration System Act. We did this as part of our strategy to reduce illegal immigration incidents, like the one this summer off the coast of BC.
This Act makes it easier to prosecute human smugglers, impose mandatory minimum prison sentences on convicted smugglers–and hold ship owners and operators to account for use of their ships in human smuggling operations.
While this legislation is an important part of our strategy to stop immigration abuse, it’s not our only strategy.
We are also increasing our presence internationally and working to stop illegal immigration in the affected nations.
Your Conservative government supports a fair immigration system and that’s why we are cracking down on the crooks.
