Canada is Taking the Lead in Helping Haiti
January 25th, 2010
Even though the earthquake in Haiti is an immense tragedy, one can be proud of what Canada is doing to relieve the suffering in that country.
The Canadian Forces Disaster Assistance Response Team has been sent to Haiti.
We now have approximately 2,000 men and women, seven helicopters and two ships contributing to the rescue and recovery efforts.
To date nearly 1,000 Canadians have been brought safely back from Haiti.
And the federal government is matching dollar for dollar Canadians’ charitable contributions to disaster assistance for Haiti. This is in addition to the preliminary contribution of $5 million announced immediately after the earthquake.
Canada is taking the lead in helping Haitian people; we are doing what we can to help them. It is only right that a nation as blessed as ours use its resources to aid those who need our help in times of crisis.
